Artist's Comments

I'm not entirely happy about the muzzle, but I can not fix it anymore. He's just making a funny face. I can live with it as it's the mood that's more important here. In hindsight, I should've taken more time and perhaps used a reference. However, I pride myself into being able to paint a flawless Teke without reference. Ah well, can't do a perfect painting all the time. I still kind of like it, especially the colourscheme.

And please don't comment on how ugly he is. That really hurts my feelings. To me, the Akhal Teke is the most beautiful breed of horse I have ever seen.

This is dedicated to ~Tigzz who's about as big a Teke fan as I am. :giggle:

Not sure what I'm planning with the original. Perhaps add it to my portfolio, I don't know.

My next project is to paint other Turanian horses and Turkomans. Anyone have lots of references? I have little clue as to what they really look like because they're nowhere to be found in the Netherlands, or Belgium, or Germany for that matter. Examples of Turanian horses aside the Akhal Teke are: Yabou, Golkan, Tekke, Yamoud and the Iomud. Anyone own one? Doesn't matter if you're Russian, Turkmen, Iranian or anything: I want to paint and promote these so they won't go extinct!

(Just as I keep promoting the old type Friesian: they're so rare nowadays, it's sad).

Ok, I'm done ranting. No references were used. About 100 minutes on A3.

I think this piece is amazingly beautiful. I only noticed how ackward his muzzle was once you pointed it out to me. Every horse has some confirmation flaw, as a commisioned portraite artist you'll want to hide those things. However you could be untrue to the animal and/or you expresion if they were always perfect beyond reality. When I look at this piece, my eye travels up along his back, around his neck, to that magnificent eye. To me, his eye is the most important feature. Good work and keep it up!

Wow, i LOVE those colors. totally teke!

I definitely see what you mean by the muzzle, basically the mouth is a bit too high and the nostril a bit small. Other then that his cheek is a bit small and round. But like ~sias43 said, that eye is great, really expressive.

I must say though, my favorite is the neck

looking forward to see more! :D

I love those typical necks! I think I didn't think long enough on the lineart. But that's all right, it doesn't really bother me all that much anymore.

I'm one to talk... I have so little time for online stuff... You're welcome of course. Not many hardcore Akhal Teke fans out there. =)
